Climate Mobility Pavilion at COP28

The Climate Mobility Pavilion (CMP), organized by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) in association with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will be a dedicated space at COP28 for actors to discuss and advance solutions for mitigating and addressing the impacts of the climate crisis on human mobility. It aims to center efforts on the adaptation journeys of climate vulnerable communities, as well as advance people-centered climate action.

Context

Forced migration is emerging as the human face of the climate crisis. Extreme weather events and slow onset changes such as water scarcity, decreased crop yields, and rising sea-level are driving millions of people from their homes. Against this backdrop, the CMP at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh helped mobilize like-minded champions to elevate climate mobility in the international agenda. This resulted in the Conference of Parties emphasizing in its outcome document “the growing gravity…of adverse effects of climate change… including its impact on cultural heritage, human mobility, and displacement and the lives and livelihoods of local communities.”

Join Us

From 1 to 10 December, in the Blue Zone of COP28, the CMP will feature a programme of events that will bring together critical geographies and key constituencies, while presenting new knowledge, policy ideas, practices, and solutions for addressing climate mobility. It will be a platform for all affected regions and communities to bring forward their voices and contributions. The Pavilion will also feature a dedicated exhibition space for documentaries, videos, photography, and artwork. You can find a map of the Blue Zone here.
